IF ITS NOT TOO FAR DOWN ON FUNCTION YOU SHOULD

Make sure you checkout the multi-power if it has one. When you go from low to high the shift should be very positive, if it's mushy the multi-power pump or clutch pack maybe about worn out. Not cheap to fix that. The PS problem could be the pump is out of oil or the system needs adjustment. If you need a PS pump I think I have a new one in the garage that fits that one. If you can check out the PTO, if it has Independent PTO that runs off the same pump and the multi-power.

2000 seems too high, espescially if the guy never changed the oil and filters. Try your barganing, 1500 ould be a little better. We have a 165 w/ continental gas, and we love it. just put the tire chains back on yesterday and it is a great plow tractor in the winter. All around, they are great tractors, but repairs like PS aren't the cheapest. Check brakes, clutch, 3pt, front end(worn bushings) and the usual leaks that one looks for.
Good luck Donovan from Wisconsin

I don't have much tractor experience or heavy duty mechanical experience but I do have a gut. My gut says price out a major overhaul and a new/rebuilt P/S pump and add that to $2,000. See if the total is around what you can get a 100% functional, non-smoking, maintained tractor for. Advise that you also check 3pt hydraulics and clutch; neither are cheap to fix. Lots of info on this website that tells what to check.
