With a 1700lb weight attached or not, the rock bars will not come up unless the pressure control
adjusting rod is manually pushed down. The pump builds good press, and will lift the weight if the rod is pushed down. My question is what activates the press. cont. lever? The cam that it
rests against has yet to move other than my moving it manually, I have tried it in draft and
position detents and with the draft disabled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you

I just wanted to post a reply to thank you for your help. Thanks to Phil for your reply and thanks to Tom for all your helpfulness not only here but on the phone. As I told you on the phone I was looking in the right place but from the wrong angle. The subsiquint draft control problem stemed from a tab affixed to the linkage that was bent and had slipped passed the lever that rides on the draft control cam pushing the lever out of its centered position making it impossible to adjust. Once it was back in position it was just a matter of making the adjustments. Thank you again for all your help. Michael

There are three functions on the 3 point hitch system, position, draft and pressure control. To chagne functions you must have the hydralever all the way to the top (or back) and then use the short lever to change the function. If you examine the external linkage you will notice that there is a cam that will not allow the selection lever to move unless the hydra lever is all the way back. When the slector is moved it pushes a shaft in that picks up one of three cams (draft, position or pressure). Draft and Position each act on the control valve ultimately through different linkages, however when in pressure control the hydralever will move the linkage that moves the pessure contol link up and down, varying the pressure to the the three point cylinders. When the system is being operated in draft or position control this pressure control link stays down to provide the pressure for those two functions. Note that the clevis end is adjustable to provide the system pressure (around 2200 lbs.). When in draft or position this link should not move but should remain with pressure against the pressure control valve, but one of the other two cams should move to operate the control valve. The shaft that selects the function is pushed in by its end externally but is spring loaded to move back out. The externally linkage will get full of debris and bind up. If forced the hydralever will slip on its shaft and when in pressure control even though the hydralever is pulled back it does not return the pressure control link to its full down position even though it is full back, thus the pressure control valve is free floating. The pressue control cam is held in place by going over center and staying there until the next time the selector shaft picks it up. It is supposed to leave it in the over center position before you can change functions.

If I havn'nt fully confused you, this should help you figure out what has slipped or broken on the linkage.

Michael,

This appears to be a question for someone with a great deal more experience than myself. Review the Massey Board responses by Big Dean. In most of his responses (but not all) he links to his web site. As a retired Massey mechanic he has a lot of good info displayed on his web site and he also may be able to help with this question.
