I just got an 1105 Massey non turbo. It has been rebuilt and they said they "have not turned the fuel to it". I think the fuel pressure has been reduced or the Governor has been disabled as I can bog it out with a box blade and it NEVER kicks in the governors. It just not seem to have mega power. I have 4 different books but NONE of them mentions the pump or governor and fuel settings. What can I look at, adjust etc...???? It starts and runs GREAT. No smoke. Turns over no more than 4 times to start even on the coldest days... Help me out you Injector Pump Geeks!!!

I personally have never seen A 1105 without a turbo and I have had 5 of them on our farm. I agree it is probably your pump, but it could be out of time,or lift pump weak, filters stoped up fuel tank stoped up even main fuel supply line stoped up or mashed not allowing enough fuel to lift pump.

How many hours does it have aprox? You may want to pull the pump and injectors and take them to a certified CAV pump shop and have them worked over. If the gov. isnt kicking in like you said then, there may be a problem internally with the pump. Also the injectors may need new tips in them and the popoff pressures readjusted. You wont find fuel settings in your books because this is info is kind of special to the repair industry and unless you know what you are doing, you could cause engine and or pump damage by too much fuel or otherwise bad adjustments. And besides messing fuel adjustments is illegal on diesels. Hence the certified repair shop.

Thanks. The engine has about 100 hours on it. I still would like to know how to check the governor's operation to see if something is jammed or was backed off for breakin when they in-framed the engine. I have not had a chance to check fuel pressure yet but will do that this weekend (I have the specs on that).

I also did not know it was illegal to work on a off road injection system. You sure about that?

As far as I know and I could be wrong, tampering with fuel settings is illegal whether it is a on or off road situation. EPA regulations pertaining to pollution if I am not mistaken. Unless the overhaulers went into the pump when they rebuilt the engine which I kind of doubt, I still think if the engine isnt responding to load changes you have a faulty pump. It is good practice to have the pump and injection system worked over when the engine is overhauled. There is no reason to "backoff the gov." when breaking in. I always broke them in with a fresh injection system under a load on a dyno, full throttle for 4to 6 hours under varying loads. Always had high success with this procedure. Check with your Massey dealer. They may have a pump ready to install for exchange. The gov spring is under the cover that the throttle and shut down linkages are at if I remember correctly. Maybe you have a broken or misplaced spring in there but be careful not to damage the gasket under the cover or you will have to go see a pump shop anyway to get one. It may leak fuel after you have disturbed it. Put on some new filters while your at it. You could be sucking air in to the system or have a bad lift pump. I have had numerous lift pumps cause problems. If it wasnt replaced at overhaul then, it should be replaced now.
