HEllo all, I have been watching this group for a few days while finalizing the purchase of a (massey) Ferguson FE35. The serial number is 160260, and it is equiped with the 4 cylinder Standard diesel engine. (10 hours on a shop done rebuild). The tin is all intact, but the paint is mostly faded and in some areas lots of surface rust. I have been trying to source the year, and from the info on this site it appears to be a 1955 model, but I am curious as to the model number. Is a MF35, a TO35 and a FE35 all the same thing? The name plate says FE35, and there are no preceding letters to the serial number.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Mike

How final is your purchase? If you haven't put your money down and you want more than a lawn ornament, please let me know. Otherwise....
Do I sound a bit harsh? Sorry, but I owned one for a short time.

Steve

Hi Mike

You have a British built FE 35 which was exported to Canada, (past info from Big Dean said it was only Canada that recieved them)
These were fitted with glow plugs to all cylinders, not like the British models which are ******!!!!! to start.
The FE was built from 1956-1958 in it's origanal gold/bronze and grey, and from 1959 the paint changed to red and grey.
The tractor became known as the MF 35 but like yours it still had on the s/n plate FE.
The Perkins engine was fitted to them in 1959 and these were stamped MF 35

Look on the right side of the engine as you sit on it, and just above the core plug, to the rear of the engine are the casting dates for the engine
look for something like 12 5 59 which is 12 day of May 1959, also on the clutch housing (same side)just below were the steering box is bolted, these might be upside down.

Send me an email and I will send you an artical on the FE 35.
I was searching French tractor sites for information on another tractor and came across a French built MF 835 which is the same as the FE 35 in red and grey and fitted with a Standard engine but made in France.
Using a translation site I was able to read this site and the info on the Standard engine is very good.
I have been in contact with the site and the have asked for a photo of my 1957 Bronze FE 35 for their gallery.

Hope this is of help

Bob, Would you send a the article to me also? I would appreciate it. My FE35 (or MF35) is a 1964 (S/N SMFY360173). Even though the S/N doesn't indicate it, I have dual clutch. I also have positive ground. It has the Perkins diesel and handles my five acres very well. C. T.

Try looking at the left side of the transmission housing - right below the oil filler cap. There you will find the serial number stamped into the casing with both letters and figures.

Mike, you may get a few comments on this but I hav'nt had a go for a while, so here goes:- I think all U.K. 35's were marked as FE35 on the serial no. plate, but your no. would suggest it was made in 1959 therfore it is a Red and Grey MF35,but, what particular Grey I'll be interested to see what other guys might come up with.Incidentally,I assume your bonnet hatch is opened by push button rather than the later turn catch type. Cheers, Ali.

Ali,

Thanks for your response! The compartment hatch for fueling is operated by two 1/4 turn latches. Other than for the manifold heater (replaces the glow plugs that were originally installed) there are no other push buttons on the unit. The faded paint is red on the hood and engine covers, and grey on the axle tubes.

I look forward to all other answers as well!

Mike
