I was looking in the paper this evening, and stumbled along a 44 Massey. It says that it has weights, and has been restored. Would $1600 for it be a good price if she runs good? I haven't been around Massey's, but would like to own one. What kind of tranny do they have? Would they make a good puller with the original pistons in the 5500 pound class? Also, what would I look for on it for weak spots, and so forth? I have 4 other pullers, and would like something to just show off. My pullers are still in there work cloths right now, but I would like to have a show piece. Any info that anyone knows about them would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

I did an engineering analysis of the 44 MH as a pulling tractor, using my '49 RC and a junk '50 standard (for dimensions, geometry, weight distribution) and came to the conclusion that MH44RC (38" Tires)tractors would be excellent pullers, probably able to put most competitors on the trailer. Although I don't pull (not much action here in Northern Alberta) what I have read suggests that the 44 is quite sucessful as a pulling tractor. I agree with Marlowe that only the RC would be worth considering.

at 1600.00 it will have to be real good as for a puller i pull a 44special and a buddy a 44 in pure stock and are in the top 3 95% of the time. we use 14.9x38 on dirt and 15.5x38 on black top or 16.9x38 if rules let us pull from 5500 to 7500 but do a lot better in heavy wt. class use 1st. gear all the time. had 11 1st. this last summer. good luck and with a little set up it will pull. p.s. make sure it's a row crop with 38 in. rears or pass on it

Your buddy has enough power to pull in the 7000 class with a stock motor? Never heard of any going that high in my area. I will have to call and ask a few questions on it. Wouldn't mind having my M, 88 Oliver, and maby a 44 Massey all in the same class to give me a better shot at that trophie. Thanks for the advice!!

yes we do with 14.9x38 on a good bitting clay track with 18 in draw bar 24 from center and about 95% of weight on the rear. we pull best a 6000 and 7000 fair at 7500. i'an going to give 8000 a shot next year on black top
