I have been offered an Allied loader for my 50 for $500. It isn't in bad shape - minor leaks in one cylinder, home-made bucket, old style undermount loader (not too heavy), double action. Can anyone offer any advice about what to look for that might be troublesome? Any advice on whether it is unwise to mount it on a 50? I have power steering and my tractor is on good shape and I would like to keep it that way. Thanks

ROBERT THERE ARE SOME PROBLEMS WITH DRIVING HYD. PUMP OF CRANK. I LEARNED THE HARD WAY! YOU CAN DO IT BUT TAKES SOME REWORK TO STEERING SYSTEM. I HAVE A NEW PUMP AND A SET OF BRACKETS TO MOUNT. E-MAIL IF NEED OR WANT TO KNOW REWORK NEEDED.

Make it easier on the power steering and your arms by putting on significantly wider front tires. Something like 11L-16 wagon tires on 8" wide rims. The wide tires drastically cut back on the front tires sinking into the ground with the weight of loader and load.

You might consider adding a separate hydraulic system for the loader driven off the crankshaft pulley. It can have a greater flow capability than the internal hydraulics and leave them for use on other implements while the loader is attached.
