Hi,
I have a 35x, and am in the process of restoring. I removed the steering wheel to replace it, after a lot of pulling (3-pronged bearing puller & dot-3 brake fluid to loosen the steering wheel from the keyed shaft) I found to my dismay that a nut has been 'welded' to the shaft. I have purchased a bearing kit for the shaft, but am unsure of where in the greater scheme of things this nut has come from. Would anyone have a diagram of the steering shaft so I could cross reference. Thanks and regards, Liam

Thanks Ray, I had come across that site myself, but I can't see clearly the top of the steering shaft, where the 'nut' is welded onto mine. I am trying to see if there is threads towards the top of the shaft (under the steering wheel threads) for a nut, or did some nut just weld it there for some unknown reason. Does anyone have a close-up picture of their 35x (or 35) just under the steering wheel?
Could anyone tell me the sequence I should replace the bearings with the new kit I purchased. Mine is a bit messy and I couldn't trust it to be correct. Thanks,

Liam

hello Liam, Are we looking at the same pictures on BAREco.?#5 is the shaft and #6 the 5 piece bearing set. I right click the picture and save it on the desktop. Then when I open it I can zoom it up quite large. It seems to be threads below the wheel taper. I have not done this job myself, but it looks like there is a hex head on the part closest to the arrow line from the number 6.?? How many pieces in the kit you got. There should be someone who has done this job out there that can help you. good luck Ray.
