Hi I am from upstate NY and new to the forum. We have quite a bit of the real red power on our farm including three MF 1100. They all have MP. It does work well to have that easy gear shift. I have used it all the time when working these beauties. P.S. they all have over 20,000 hours without touching the engines.

I HAVE A MF35 WITH MP. I HARDLY USE IT. IT LEAKS WHEN IN MP HIGH. I EMAILED BIG DEAN AND HE SAID THAT IT WOULD COST ABOUT 400-600 TO FIX. HE SAID TO LEAVE IT IN MP LOW AND JUST PUT IT IN MP HIGH EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE TO KEEP THE CLUTCH FROM FREEZING UP.

Thanks for all your response! I don't like too many gadgets ( more possible problems) but I've seen some nice tractors with features like this and have passed on them for lack of understanding.

Hi, I have 2 MF 165's, one with multipower(12 speed) and one without(8 speed). I like the extra gears and shift on the fly that multipower gives. It's important that you under stand how to use it (read the owners manuel). It's similiar to the overdrive I had on my 51 Mercury. It free wheels in low range and hard to shift in high range. Bill

They worked quite well, because you could go into a higher or lower gear with just the flip of a switch. Gave you 12 speed, forward, 4 reverse. Had some drawbacks, like you can't pull one off to get it started. Like you left one parked on a hill, and was burning a brush heap at the bottom, would wait until the fire got good and hot, then jump out of gear and head straight for it.This happened more than one time. Will free wheel going downhill if not in low position. This happened more than one time. Also can be troublesome as it has an individual hyd pump to run it.
All n all you are better off without the extra convinous. Readers, let us know about your experence with multipower.

Alvin,

I believe you meant that MultiPower tractors free wheel in low MP. MP should be in high if you want engine braking like going down a long hill.
From my experience, with a 1975 MF255 purchased in 1976 with MP, it is as good as other features on your tractor. I have not had any problems with mine and do like the feature.

I owned a 35 and a 165, both had multipower. It has been a long time since I drove one. I was at the Davis tractor dealer recently and they told me that they eliminate the multipower now, because they are too expensive to maintain. I didn't have any trouble with mine. I own a MF 35 now without multipower, but it has been in bad need of a motor overhaul, for the last five years or more. Its in about as good a shape as I am, so I don't fix it. Good luck, Alvin n ms
