did you over haul the lowerpart of motor crankshaft mains and rod bearings if so you tightened the caps to tight or the bearings are oversized too much

I don't know much specifically about an MF 65, but asssume if its gas it has a coil and distributer, and not an mag. To check for spark, take out the spark plugs, connect the wire back on the plug, and have someone "hold" the plug against the engine block so it has a good contact with the side of the plug and you can see the tip. Hold it with insulated pliers or insulated screwdriver. Turn the engine over and see if a spark jumps across the gap. If it doesn't, you may have points , wire, coil or distributer cap problems. Or, if the plug smells like gas when you take it out (after you try one more time to start), you could have a carb. or stuck choke problem flooding the cylinders.

If the starter won't turn and it won't pull start your not getting power from the battery to the rest of the tractor. Check all cable connections from battery to ground and starter. Also if big cable from battery plus goes directly to starter, which it should, check smaller wires connected to same terminal on starter and where they connect on the other end.

Good luck.

Does engine turn when pulling? If so check for fuel at carb. After that check for spark at plug. With fuel, compression, and spark it should run.

Hello thanks for your responce... We have fuel and compression, but I cant guarentee spark because the only way it does turn over is being pulled at 20 mph.. So the engine tries, but doesnt start and we cant check for spark at that time cause were on the tractor... hehe Please let me know if you have any other suggestions on how to check. Take care and thanks Holly in Pennsdale

make sure battery is fully charged, clean the connections on the starter and on the cable ends, could be starter is locked up or fried inside usually this is connections. you should be able to put booster cable direct onto starter live terminal even if the battery is dead leave it for a minute or two and see if it will start. regards

holly run a jumper wire from the positive post on battery to the pos post on the coil you need to make sure that you are getting current through to the points and coil if you then pull it put it in high gear and see if it starts if it does your keyswitch or wiring to it is the problem you can also jump the starter by grounding to the frame and running your booster cable to the main solenoid terminal on starter. Most important are all connecitons and the ground to. regards

The diesel 65's have Delco electrics, so I believe the gas tractors do also. Make sure your battery is charged and in good working order. Remove the distributor cap and rotor and the bakelite cover over the points/condenser, if it has one. Turn the ignition key to the "on" position and click the points open and closed with a small screwdriver. If you have spark, it should be blue in color, as an orange spark indicates a weak battery. Once you determine you have spark, insure you have fuel to the carburetor. Once you have determined you have spark and fuel, the engine should be capable of running, unless you have serious internal engine problems. The fact that your starter clicks indicates a dead or uncharged battery, warn starter brushes, broken starter drive or a defective solenoid. With the ignition switch on and the tractor in neutral, short a screwdriver across the large (battery) terminal on the center of the starter solenoid and the small terminal closest to the engine block. If the starter, flywheel ring gear and battery are in working order, the engine should turn and hopefully start. Good Luck!
