I read a post from below that stated the 203 Perkins diesel was know for heavy vibration at high speeds. I have a 165 that vibrates like crazy at 1500 rpm. Is there a solution for this or is it something that you have to live with?

Don,

I have a 1975 MF 255 diesel with the 203. The tractor was purchased in 1976 and I don't think I have any more vibration than any other tractor. Sometimes the vibration may be pronounced but increasing or decreasing the throttle by 50 to 100 rpms seems to smooth it out. I have never felt that my tractor had a problem with this.

From my 25 plus years of owning and operating this tractor I think the 255's are good tractors.
Good luck.

I was looking at a MF255 and decided to ask Big Dean his professional opinion. Here's the E-Mail he sent me.

Hi Charlie The MF255 was a good tractor the early one had the AD4-203 Perkins engine in them the vibration from that engine would shake the bolts out of the hood on some & on others it did not effect them never figure that one out. They that engine for a couple of years then went to the AD4-236 These tractors were just a small version of the MF265 they were an excellent tractor. We sold quite a few of both and they gave very few problem. The ones we sold were about the same price as the MF245 & about $1500 less than the MF265 equipped the same. Hope this helps Big Dean

Hi Don

You did not mention if your engine is Gas or diesel. Vibration may come from uneven compression
among each cylinder (many PSI)...Or from the dual clutch assembly if some parts are broken and have fallen in bell housing and cause clutch assembly to be unbalanced...

For now I suggest to not operate your engine at vibration RPM. Vibration is destructive.

My 2 cents

Good luck
