I am considering a MF 180 to purchase. The 180 is a larger tractor than I really want, but it seems to be a nice one. Can anyone offer any advice on this model? Thanks

A friend of mine brought his early massey gas with the continental engine to me to be overhauled and we ended up converting it to a diesel as there were no parts for the continental. If I remember right, that engine was made for that tractor only and they only made less than 200 of them 'if' I remember right.

The 180 is a 62 pto horsepower rowcrop tractor (flat deck operators platform}. It is mechanically the same as the 175 utility. Is this tractor gas or diesel? The early gas models used a Continental 206 engine. Parts for this engine are very hard to come by. I know of one of these that was parted out because the owner couldn't find new engine valves. The diesels all had Perkins 236 engines, which are very common, and the late gas models used a gas version of the 236.

Diesel. Its sounds like the diesel is OK. With new tires and in good condition, any idea of value, anyone? Thanks.

A couple of years ago, we trade a 165 for a 180 and it was an excellent step up. The 180 has a lot of traction due to its 38 inch rear wheels. The diesel engine is very dependable. Is it an open station or it wears a cab? Depending on this, price should be between 6000 and 7500. I would not be afraid of this tractor unless it has a loader. The front spindles are not strong enough for the hard work of a loader.

I have had a 180 diesel for 20+ yrs. It has been the most dependable tractor I have owned (many makes). It is also the easiest winter starting tractor I have been around. The controls are easily accesible. The diesel is also very easy on fuel.

I agree with these knowlegable gentlemen. I have a 180 that my Dad bought 30 some years ago. It is very dependable, always starts and does what is asked of it. I disagree with Marty, mine has always had a loader, was the primary loader tractor for years with no problem. I think you would be very happy with a 180.
Only drawback I see is the hydralic system is a bit slow, buy very usable. Drill in Alberta(4 inches of snow on ground this morning)
