I am thinking about a 255 Massey Ferguson. It runs and operates really well. Everything works. Good paint and tires. How much do you all think this might be worth? Thanks for any info!

$6500. That is about the going rate for a tractor of that age. Gotta remember that it's an MF and some parts get a little pricey. Good thing is there's a lot of aftermarket stuff. Only thing is that they are a little hot in the summer to operate.

I have a 275 which is quite similar; a good working Multi-power is a plus; there is 2 possible engines in this tractor, the 203 CID and 236 CID; 203 is easier to start in winter but has a tendency to vibrate more excessively than the 236; there is certainly a reason why MF switched from 203 to 236 CID. Check hydraulic system before buying.
Just my 2 cents

which transmission? multipower or the 8 speed standard? I prefer the 8 speed 'cause it's bulletproof.
make sure the PTO will drive a load, the 3 point will lift a load, and the aux hydraulics will lift a load. These tests will verify that the PTO clutch, 3 point pump, and aux hydraulic pump are OK.
I love that Perkins diesel. Starts well in winter and easy on fuel.

Jon,

I have a 1975 MF255 diesel row crop (sets a little higher). A dealer told me it might be worth $4,500 in a trade, may be more if good tires. I would not price mine at $8,000 because I would fear that someone would buy it. These are good all around tractors and fitted with a 6 foot bushhog can really work. We have cattle so mine moves hay, rakes hay and bushhog's mostly.
I don't think you can go wrong with this tractor in my humble opinion. Feel free to post additional questions and I will certainly try to answer from my perspective.
