Ok, I got a 44 that the carb won't carb.
The tractor has been sitting who knows how long. Cleaned tank, fuel bowl and line to carb.

Took it apart, thoroughly cleaned and blew out with air. Installed new gaskets. Tried it, gas goes to carb bowl, float functions, unscrewed meter rod, gas ran out. Hand choked it, not even a hint of gas fumes, let alone wet gas. Sprayed starting fluid, tractor fires right up, quit squirting fluid, tractor dies. I take off carb, go through it again, looks real good and clean, re installed it, made sure gas is running freely to carb, tried it, choked it until the battery ran down, no gas, no fumes. Something is obviously restricting, but I CAN'T FIND IT!!! Drives me crazy! Any suggestions!

buy another carb.. because you said you did competely taking carb apart..it maybe messed up.. happened to me i took it apart 3 times before it ran like a heaven..so just try take every single parts apart and try everything you can. if still wont solve it, just go get another one..i know that carb is very easy to fix thats very very common problem, they run crap.. all it took is new rebuild kits and lots of cleaning out. then it should solve it the problem.. good luck .. sbone

Have you tried soaking the carb in an acid, such as spray gun cleaner? If you don't have any, take it to a place that rebuilds commercial airless paint sprayers. My suggestions for that would be, commercial paint contractors, some rental companies, an industrial paint supplier like Sherwin Williams.

Once it has soaked for a good day or so, use a fine wire, compressed air and carb cleaner to clean out ALL the passages. I had one carb that I had to drill out a couple of brass plugs, clean the ports and replace the plugs to get the darn thing going. Once I did though, it ran great.

Pete.

hello.
a few months ago, I went through the exact problem on my 44. I will try to explain what I did. On the outside body of the carb, there is a t-handle type adjuster screw not the screwdriver slot one. what i did with mine was screw it out until it ran. then when it ran I fine tuned it.
Hope this helps. let me know how it works out.

Great suggestion, I tried it screwed all the way in, all the way out, and everything in between... no luck.

in the center of the carb there is a tube that sticks up that is probably clogged you need to remove it clean all the holes in it and clean the area it goes in to be careful removeing it I broke one on a Massy the other day that tube is where the engine gets it fuel from if its the least bit clogged you have problems hope this helps

I took the tube out when I first cleaned, it was clogged. I thoroughly cleaned it, every little hole and straight through. Then blew compressed air through it. Your suggestion is right on, but still my carb won't let gas escape from the float bowl! frustrating!

we had one on an 8N ford that we tried every thing to get it to work ended up haveing to buy a new carb something about the rust in the bottom of a carb that doesn't let the gas flow like it should you may end up haveing to do the same thing
