I have a 3 cyl perkins diesel which I am sure has never been apart at high rpm it has a very noticeable rattle I am thinking valve adjustment but it could be more major at idle and just open a bit it sounds fine but at half throttle sounds like it is ready to fly apart I need high rpm for the hyd pump since it has 220 backhoe which now works good after a tear down I want to keep this thing for a few years and am already thinking engine overhaul any ideas thanks\

Loose rod cap will sound like this.

whats the oil preasure like if it's low I'd say you have loose bearings and you said it sounds like it is going to fly apart at mid range I'd pull the pan and check the rod bearings etc if the preasure is low hope this helps
