Today I changed the oil and filter on my 165, done it a dozen times before, but this time it leaked when started. I took it out and turned the filter around in the sock, not that it makes any difference, and it was fine. I hooke on the plow and went out. While doing a dead furrow, the plow was going a little deep and snubbed the tractor. I started it back up and oil shot out from the filter again, for some reason the gasket isn't seating right. Never had this happen before, what the heck's going on? Bad filter/ gasket? I had a Hastings in there, although every other time I bought from the dealer. Put a Massey filter in again, but that shouldn't cause any problems. Should it?

A lot of times the gaskets will shrank and fit loose in the recess where the filter goes. If it does not fit fairly tight against the walls of the recess gently pull it to stretch out a little so it fits tight. if it does not fit tight it will work it way in side the canister. I have had to do this several times to stop them from leaking. Hope This will help

Thanks, I'll try this tomorrow. Otherwise I'll go to Automotive supply on Monday and buy a new Hastings filter, they seem better construction anyways, and they also have a nice little pull tab to pull the element out of the canister. Today just wasn't my day. I changed the Hyd. filter on our Ollie 1755 and that worked fine, but while running and looking over for leaks, I found a leaking line right by the pump and looks like it's gonna be difficult just because of location, rear side of pump, right by rear wheel and the axel housing. I'll have fun doing that one.... right
