I recently borrowed my friends MF165 to bushog with. When I went to put it in gear the gear shift lever was stuck in the middle of the shifting range. It is stuck there and will not budge. The HI-LO lever seems to work. Is there any way I can trouble shoot this problem without a tear down? Can the top transmission cover be removed without getting into a Mess? Any suggestions will be appriciated.

Take the fluid filler plug out. It's in front of the seat. Take a long screwdriver and work it back and forth along the shifting rail. You will feel it slip back in place.

I just went thru this but was stuck between gears in theforward reverse shuttle shift. I had to drive out the pin that holsds the high/low and forward reverse shifters and work on the rails with a screwdriver to get the alligned.

no big deal this is real common with massey because when you shift you pull up on the shifter and that pull the shifter out of the rails. just lossen the cover a little and you should be abell to get it back in the rails

I have said several times on this site that I am mechanically challenged and have unstuck the gears on my 35 several times. The first time took ten minutes, the next couple took less than five. Big Dean has a great explanation on his web site Link It is the first item on page 2. C. T.
