Early 1960's MF 50 gas. Has been runnung great , but since yesterday I can't seem to keep it running for more than a few minutes . Thought I had a fuel problem , maybe bad gas , but I drained it all out and refilled it , still doing the same thing . Could the coil cause this ? It will only run for about 2 minutes before dying out , especially if under a load , no matter how small . Any thoughts or experiences with similar problems? Thank you , John

Hi!

just had a similar problem with my mf40 - i did the fuel bowl idea - and then traced it back to trash in the fuel tank when gas was low - it was too large to make it down to the filter bowl - i removed the filter and drained the tank.

to check fuel flow, pull drain plug out of bottom of carb, catch gas with a coffee can - if gas keeps on running out steady, you have good fuel flow

Check fuel flow. Had a 35 did the same thing. Turned out flow was slow. Tractor would run great for about 3 minutes then lose power and die. Let it set a while and could do the whole thing over again. Clogged line.

I'd still look at carb problems if you choke it does it stay running if so you have a clogged jet

John, coil or condensor either one could cause this. Start by replacing the condensor as it's the cheaper of the 2.
