Does anyone know why there aren't many M.F. pulling tractors. I've been to several pulls over the years and almost never see a M.F.

MF was the first manufacturer (late 1950's) to build a "modern" tractor; live PTO with 2-stage clutch, Perkins diesel, 6 speed trans, power adjust wheels, decent 3-pt system, comfortable seating/controls/pedals. When the competition was still building what we consider today to be antiques, M-F was building tractors that are STILL IN USE. I am just completing restoration on a 1959 MF 65 Diesel that I've owned and used for 25 years. When the green, red, yellow and blue tractors of that era are used in pulling competitions, idling in parades or rusting behind barns or in junk yards, my trusty old friend will be running a five-disc hay mower next summer. Try doing that all day with your JD 630, IH 450 or 961 Ford.

My dad and uncle have been pulling two MF 165's here in Ohio for over 30 years. We regularly pull against a guy with a 65 diesel, but that seems to be the extent of the MF tractors at local pulls.

I'm not sure why, but a local family has a 1105 and an 1155(I think) modified for pulling, and they do very well. The 1155 now just has a nutural gallop to the idle, as well as full throttle because of all the mods to it. Only really lose to another neighbor who has money to blow on his IH, and his tractor is NUTS!! I've heard he has over $50,000 in the engine alone, and I wouldn't be suprised.
