Hi guys: I removed and dissassembled the pump for my dad's mf35 last night. Studied over the hydraulic system. Got to rebuild the pump. Figured out mostly how everything works, except, the pump has an oscillating mechinism that turns the valve body back and forth, I can't for the life of me figure out why, it's bugging me trying to understand that. Anyone got any idea what that's all about. Thanks, Bear

Its called a Scotch Yoke. Based on an old internal combustion engine design, thats how the pressure is produced

thanks criss, but, I'm not refering to the piston drive system, with the yokes, but instead, there is another arm, working off the eccentric of the cam bushings, that cause the valve stem to rotate back and forth. The only thing I've seen so far on this, is that it might be designed to keep the valve from sticking when under heavy load. I have to pick up new piston rings for the pump in the morning, and reassemble the pump and install. I'm just hoping it works first time, a bit of a chore removing the pump, but actually wasn't all that bad. I think I found the problem with the lift, the pump piston rings were shot, one "o" ring busted, and the suction filter clogged, hopefully it'll work better now, it's for years been weak, but after a fluid change, won't lift 10 lbs..

So ... when the hydraulics leak down with the engine off what exactly is leaking and how technically difficult is it to repair?

Depending on how quickly they leak down you may not have a problem at all. When I rebuilt my 35 last year, I just put a new set of rings on the lift piston and fresh hyd. fluid. My lift with a #800 box scrape on the lift arms will stay up for about 30 minutes. I guess you could make the system completely bypass free, but most times I have the engine running when using implements so a little leak down static isn't an issue

Oscillator is to stop control valve sticking.
