There is a M-F 1080 coming up for sale local. The hours are unlisted, but it has two remotes and good rubber. I know the farmer and I know he takes good care of it. My question is in s.e. PA what might this tractor go for? Is a 1080 a good tractor? I think it is about 80 HP? Thanks for the advice!

The 1080 is an excellent tractor for light tillage and yard work (loader) and uses very little fuel. I liked our 1080 and it served us well over the years. Now I'll give you the bad points, no float in the hyd, rearend final drives don't like heavy 3pt loads, 4.318 engine could use about 5 more ponys (would like to of put on a turbo).

Hope this helps
Merle

Putting a turbo on that 318 is asking for trouble since it's only a 4 cyl. If it was an 1130 or something I could see it. We had a neighbor who had a 1080 and pulled 5-16" here in Ohio clay. A pretty good tractor, but the kind of work it did will show when its new owner gets it home!

If you know the owner, is he the original owner? This model goes back 3 plus decades. Was this his 'Hard-Work' tractor? What do the implements look like, for condition/size? When was the engine O-H?
Big tires, on this 80 HP tractor, would add stress
to the drive train. 18.4x38's would pit that diesel against good traction, pulling plows or heavy implements. If he bought it used, don't push the bids, place your first, last. Good luck.

A 1080 is a lot less tractor than a 1100. Neighbor had 1080, 1100, and 1130 at a tractor pull. All were 2 years of being new at the time. The 1080 balance was way off and did not pull well at all. The 1130 did not have the lugging ability, it lost boost and was all over. Good shape, right price, and not expect to do a lotta plowing, ok.
