MH 44 Wide Front Hub Question

I have a '49 44 Row Crop with the adjustable high arch front end. I took it apart to have a look at the wheel bearings/spindles etc. and found that the wheel bolts on either side were different. The left hand side (sitting on the tractor) hub was much beefier and had 9/16" fine thread wheel bolts (7/8" wrench), and the RHS had 1/2" fine thread bolts (3/4" wrench). My parts book says that they should be 1/2". The bearings are correct for the tractor. Any thoughts? Also, does anyone know of a supplier for the felt seals (one side was missing, the other in poor shape)?

In about 1950, MH changed the cast 5 bolt hubs,
making the face thicker. The bolt pattern did not
change, so someone replaced one of your hubs.
The lug bolt size might vary, due to striped thread, tapped out, etc. If the width adjustment uses wedges bolted through the tube, that is the '49-'55 style WFE. The felt seals were advertised
on the Massey Collector's Assoc. site, or Massey
Board.com. Terry Kessel of Friends of Massey, had
various felt seals, some small parts.Good luck.

Thanks. That information fits perfectly with what I found as the beefier hub has a thicker flange with a uniform cross section, while the other flange is thicker only around the bolt holes. The larger bolts on the one flange look like a factory job or a good machinist, which would be out of character for the rest of the shoddy "repairs" done on the tractor over the years. The wide front is in pretty sad shape. It has the wedges bolted through the tubes, but they are ovaled and at some point the owner solved the looseness problem by welding the spindles to the axle tube. So I am in the process of restoring the parts. It is fairly meticulous work to get the original dimensions back, and I would probably just junk the whole thing if I could find a decent wide front. However, where I am (NW Alberta) RC 44's are rare and wide front ones non-existent, so I will persist. Thanks for the tip on the felt seals; I'll e-mail T.K. and see if he's got the stuff.
