Can anyone tell me which Continental engines were used in Massey Harris self propelled corn pickers? I have the opportunity to purchase two pickers one with the four cyl and the other with the six cyl. I want to locate the rebuild kits before I make my decision.

I know of a self propelled M-H picker setting and rusting down in a stage way to late to save that has the 4 cyl flat cont engine I think is 162 cube the same as my 101 Jr. Checked it out when looking for a 44-6 manifold. I don't know if this is an early model, there were options on engines or why the 4 cylinder but thats what it had. Most advertisments I have read always called for the 226 cube 6 cyl.

The F226 was used, a flathead six, same as the 44-6 engine. A four cylinder? Don't recall that one.
Perhaps a model change? Repower? Is it a OHV or
flathead? Any numbers under the manifold, or on tag, by the oil check stick? Mysteries. Good luck.

Thank you for the tip on the F226, neither engine has an ID tag on it. By the way, the four cyl, a continental flathead, was used in the first series with serial #'s 8101 and up. They are recognized by a rounded top on the tall air cleaner stack. The six cyl was in the second series serial #'s 12001 and up which had a triangle air cleaner stack.

To bad Alberta Mike spends so much time around area 51 dream land instead of learning something isn't it :~)

Well actually, the reference to flying saucers is a little private joke between o-t-l and myself and was really directed at him, not the original post. Sorry if anyone misunderstood that ... actually I've learned a thing or two myself here on the MH forum.
