i am going to try and trade my farmall H tomorow on a Massey Harris 33 with a loader on it. i know that with the loader on the tractor i will be needing to pay attention to the front end and will take the time to look over the tube on the tractor realy well to see if i can find any stress cracks and so forth. but what items should i look at on a 33, that are not problems with a 44. the 33 has no paint on it, but that is not a conserne of mine. it is a rc, unknowen year. i think that i remeber seeing parts of the lift all, not sure thought. (it was a few months back that i seen it) with the loade on it, should i worry abought any thing else besides the tub and front end?

Loaders abuse farm tractors, accept no argument on
that fact. I assume this is adjustable wide front
axle, as you mention tube. The expense on a WFE
would be:steering box, as the shaft begins to turn
does the box housing shift? If so, binding gear,
thread (3/8") is stripped into base cast support
housing. Using 4" grade 8 bolts(4)will allow you
to add a hex nut/lock washer beneath. You can get
most bushings, accept the two in the sector gear.
The width adjustment is two pair of wedges, bolted
vertical. These holes wear to oval, quick fix, is to move over one hole. If the wedge is flush with the tube, there is wear. Tie rod ends wear out,
you can shake this sloppy linkage. If the pressed
front rims are not cracked through the 5 lug bolt pattern, maybe not so beaten. How is the clutch,
brakes? If live PTO, double disc brakes, oil leak?
Take a 3/8" rachett with you, remove the gear oil
level plug by the left brake pedal rail;can you feel the oil, with you small finger, or find any with a straw or wire? No oil? Do not buy. If the
engine(E201) is running strong, good. The loader
may have cracked the U-frame(tub),dead center,
beneath the radiator. This crack can continue into the 5/8" rear bolt hole, of the steering
support housing. Scraping the oil/dirt with a
pocket knife, you can find the possible crack,
widest beneath the radiator. I avoid loader tractors, but exceptions might arise, if owner
operated, or only used for snow. If the steering is messed up, engine rough/smokes,oil is tar-like,
brakes stuck, corroded sheet metal, oil/dirt caked on,front axle tube bent, best to'pass'. Good luck.

Well thanks for the advice. it dont matter though, whne the dealer figured that i wanted the worth of my tractor he forgot that he even had that tractor on the lot. he would remeber i am sure if i would have been willing to trade my H in for $400 off any tractor there. but there was no way he was going to give me full value and told me to go look else where. oh well his loss.
