Back to this again, Mr. B? Stay in the 44 models,
are you reading the replies to your questions?
Those big boys, 5's, are another direction. You
have three 44's to focus on, one runs, you said.
Why not get to know how to fix those 44's, they
need you attention. Let someone else tackle those
old 55's. Buying one will lead to 3, all with a
story of what is wrong. Too costly to overhaul, tired 'big' iron. 44's are Golden. Good luck.

ha.. i already finished up fixing that wide front.. im just about to be done with all touch ups.. then i ll take a picture of it..theres a salvage tractor yard about 30 mins from me... theres 5 mh 44s sitting there.. all engines are gone but theres hydraulic sitting there so i was hoping it might fit on mh 55? also i have 2 mh 44s and yes they run but it needs to be worked on... one has no firing but everything works, have to look at it some more and other runs real good but it smokes really bad.. needs valve guide seals... and i dont have a shed with concrete and heating so im going to wait until i build one then im going to revive those poor 2 mh 44s back the way it was..also the mh 55 im looking at its almost in top condition mostly needs just painting.. probably wont need overhaul for loong time and im just planning to use for pulling and showing off thats all.. just really nice to have one.. but thanks for your suggestions.. still would love to have mh 55

thanks again MR BONE

i think that he might be right on this one. the 55's are much bigger than the 44's. parts are hard as heck to get for them and very pricey. your startment on you are going to pull it dont fit in with the engine lasting for years with out an over haul. pulling is very hard on an engine. you will be loooking at used replacment parts for that 55, and NO the hydralic pump wont work. oh corse if you are looking to pull it you sure dont want to have the pump on it any way. ps. if that other 44 only needs spark than why would you wait till you have a garage built?
if you have no spark geting it is little more than an hours job replaceing all the parts and runing to town to get the parts.

thanks..just wanted to know what it can fit and cant fit...yes i know the parts are real hard to find for mh 55..the one im looking at is in real good shape, probably dont have to worry about rebuilding for long time.. the frist mh 44 with widefront im all finished up painted and all that works. in my house garage! i cant do that anymore, because of that paint and not much room, also i have a big barn but its not wise to paint or eles in that barn, no concrete or electric so im going to build me a shed sometime and guess what, im getting married next month so thats the reason im so busy. anyways all 3 of them are just sitting in the barn all cozy up together..the 2nd mh 44 with missing firing, i did everything i could think of, new plug wires, spark plugs and ingition, points, caps.. it didnt solve the problem. it has really good compression, i think it needs to be adjusted on valves or it could be a weak spring valve that let it open when piston was going down? otherwise it runs real good..but still has no fire in number 3 piston..i think the head needs to be working on.. so thats a big job im saving when im not busy.. other mh 44 just needs valve guide seals.. thats all then paint them up and put new tires..still i want to have mh 55, they are huge..yes i know they are real hard to find parts.. money is no problem for me..which i doubt that mh 55 will give me any trouble for long time..just paint it up and change all fluids, keep in top shape that thing will last u a long time, which i plan not to use all times just drive it around and pull something thats all, it sounds a easy job for mh 55 to do it..i want to know some more about mh 55 what parts can fit and what cant.. its something that you dont see mh 55 all times everywhere you go to the festivals.. still i have not seen mh 55 around here! so that would be cool to have one while others dont ha...someday i might have a competely set of massies.. 55, 44, 33, 101jr, 22, colt, mustang, and of course a pony! who knows! greatly appricate your thoughts and feedbacks.. i wouldnt mind to have mh 55 if it runs or not, just love to have it sitting in my yard and look at it!

thanks everyone shannon bone

how is pulling tractors hard on the engine? i think that if you have to ask that question you do not have your tractor wieghted right than. when you run down a track two outcomes will happen, one you will spin out, or two you will power out. powering out is an sevre overload on your engine and pulls the rpms down below rated levels. i have overloaded one tractor in my life so far. that tracotor now has a crack in the block due to that over load. i was puling dead wheight. i know taht you pull your 44 and place well with it, so i am not sure how you can say that pulling is not hard on an engine?

Mr Bone.
you question regarding have i seen a 55 or 555 yes i sure have.
you have been asking questions and i have been giveing you anwsers, it is not my fault that you do not like the anwsers that i give you. with all due respect lifeing here in wisconsin i have more massey harris tractors around me than most folks any where else in the country. i am willing to bet that i have touched more massey tractors than you have seen online for you searchs. with in two miles of here there are! 30 gasser 5 MH 44 gassers, two 444 gassers and a 44 diesel. there also is 2 #27 MH combines and two #50 MH clipper combines. in a ten mile raidus there is also a #30 combine that i know of, a handfull more 44's there was a 44s that just found a new home. (not mine darn it) and a few 33's. to the north where there is more open spaces and at one time a realy good MH dealer there is alot of MH 55's. oh yea i forgot abought the 101 jr up at american.

Oh yea, i forgot abought the third posability too. that is a full pull, rare occurence normally.
after reading what i posted i think that i should put it in lamens terms here. any time that you pull a engine to an overload condition which is what happens when you power out it is very damageing to an engine. it is more damageing than normal use. i am not talking abuse here, just normal use.

steven h!!! first i have been pull more years then you might be old . second if i don't know how to weight then the 50+ 1st. i have taken must be a fluk. third if you power out if and when you ever pulled then you don't know a thing about pulling.I DO NOT POWER EVER!!!!! ! from 5500 to 6500.so don't tell me it's hard on engines. when we farmed with this 44 special we had 15.5x38 duals on it and would kill it DEAD in it't tracks that was hard on the engine BUT she has never been overhauld. and still is a top puller. got 3rd to day missed 2nd by 1in.

i dont care how many years you have been pulling tractors. i have seen any brand of tractor power out on the right tracks. and on pavemnet i see tractors power out all the time. i have the egine that i blew from an over load siting in the garage. one sleeve is gone that rest you can see the honeing in still, the engine had maybe 20 hours on an OH.(not done by me)

Hey never said that ever tractor at the pull powered out, i said i have seen every brand power out. and here agin i realy dont care how many egines you have rebuilt either, becuase i have rebuilt a good many engines to. i started with small enngines when i was younger, but now i have rebuilt just abought every engine that sits on are property, we have 11 vehicals and many are from the 70's. my first four banger was a farmall H, from there i rebuilt the 225 slant six in the dodge, i have rebuilt a 350cid thati had in my olod pont, i have rebuilt the 330 egine in are f350, just because you have more years on me dont go thiningin that you have done it all. and just to please you i will maek a post titled power outVS spinnouts.

Hey shannon the 55 and 555 should pull better than a 44, they were made only for tillage. do not mistake what i say, just because they were made for one type of work does not mean that farmers did not use them for things other than they were made for. great example of that is the IH 2+2's great row crop tractors if you used them for row crop work.

yep.. thats what i thought cuz i have a catalog about mh 55's mostly they were using for pulling, and saw a loader on front to push trees around.. all i know is they never came with 3 point hitch at all but you could make one to fit on it if you have hydraulic.. so anyways i just would love to own one and just drive around and do some pulling... you know fred wolfe.. thats the guy i may buy 55 from him evenually... he said gasser were the best to go with and yes you can get most of the parts, thats what i asked him what ifs.. but thanks steve.. just curious have u ever see mh 55 in pulling shows? i have not even saw one in pulling! not in books or tv or at festivals.. i wonder why?

thanks much steve sbone

if you have fun at a pull it never does matter if you are dead last at the pull, remeber if you do come in last ever, some one had to. it was your turn that day.

Since Steven covered both of your postings, you
might reconsider questioning his experience,since
his answers are correct. First, you could probably
carry the parts that fit a 55&44.Second,why would
a puller want to 'add' hydraulics? They tend to
drop everything to keep the HP. Everyone can have
an opinion, doesn't make it the law we obey. If
you have that storage barn filled with MH tractors
in running condition, good for you & the saved MH
classics. The Guy in Iowa has 53(all w/paint),that
is great, like a museum of the correct red. This
MH Board is our last hope to collectively save the
legendary MH tractors. Steven didn't try to sell
you a 44 pump, saying no problem, he answered. You
are welcome to believe a 55 is as good as a 44RC,
and is as efficient in pulling ability. I am free
to disagree one hundred percent, it's America!

just wanted to know if it can fit or not, someday i might need hydraulic for something.. yes i know by adding the hyd pump it would reduce the horsepower, of course it does that.. like if i have 8 foot brush hog pull type i would need an hydraulic so it can push the wheels to make the brushhog higher or lower...i might plan do that that someday if i cant put the hydraulic on mh55 from mh 44 then its no big deal.. there are lots of mh 44 parts around here but no 55's i greatly appricate steves feedback and yours (off the land)... would be nice if we all can hang out some bar or some place where we can talking about it... i just cant explain everything thats on my mind ha... but thanks again... i thought mh 55 were pretty good pullers? they are like 1/3rd bigger than mh 44 so it must be a pretty big one..if you find a real good shape mh 55.. then it should be alright to use it? but please go ahead educate me some more about mh 55..what is their adavange and disadavange?

appricate it! shannon

Marlowe, you pull regularly, with balanced weight,
plus the distinct advantages:experience & a 44RC Special. It remains critical for your Special to
deliver 100 percent, for brief minutes. You are
prepared, you KNOW that tractor. Would you have
nearly the same confidence, sending a novice,
with the 55 he bought last week? The engine may
run without smoke, but be unfit for any stress.
How many times will it make the pull before a
rod bearing/whatever, fails? If you glance back on
all the comments to this posting, a 44 with no
spark, requires building a garage, to correct. I
read these statements, wondering how another parked
bargain can perform a full pull, on the merits,
that it 'runs'. Fall plowing of a 100 acres, for
corn, is the story of miracles. These tractors
deserve our respect, they earned it decades ago.
