hello, i dont know alot about mh 55 or 555's but would like to know about it.. whats the difference between mh 55 and 555? which one is better gas or diesel engine? i heard they were riddled with alot defect parts when they started to make them? what year or what serial number is best to buy? how hard is it to find parts if something ever happens? engine kit rebuild parts, are they easy to get it? there is a mh 55 gas that im looking at it... just wanted something that wont give me any trouble for long time.. im not planning to use it all times but just to fix it up and like new and use for pulling , pretty much a fun toy to play with... so any info greatly appricate it.. i still will get one no matter what...

thanks much! shannon

the 55 and 555 both used the same enighe, 382cid(i think) the 55 produced (corrected to sea level basis) 68.20 hp max. belt; 60.45 hp max. drawbar. the 555 coreted to sea leavel was over 70 hp on the belt and around 65 drawbar hp. neither were able to have a hitchall, as they were all standards or westerns. (westerns have a curved front axle) the throtle on the 55 was the same as what is on the 44 and would always slide when runing and requires you to hold it in place. they were capable of runing two, two way valves off a specail valve. if you ever get in with a SWD9 you best have that tractor wieghted correctly or you will be stomped bad. parts kits i dont think are avalible, but might be wrong. parts for theese old masseys are very hard to come by and the big brutes are even more so. from the factorie all gassers were rated higher hp than diesels, but i am not sure if the pump is able to be turned up on them diesels.
