Hi all...I am hoping someone can tell me what I have here for sure...I have posted a picture but this appears to be a compressor for a power take off...it still has the original paint on it which appears to be Massey Harris? I was just wondering if someone can tell me for sure if i am right, and also if anyone had a photo of how it attached to a tractor?...it's as simple as a pto shaft that runs a piston up and down with an outlet on top that has threads much like a valve stem would. Thanks in advance! I can be reached at [email protected].....

Hi; I cant add much to what dw has already stated except that it hung on a 540 spline because that is all there was in those days and it came with about a twenty foot hose. It was used to blow up tires. The JD and Massey dealers sold dosens of them aruond here. They sure beat hand pumps before the hydro arived. Harold .

John Deere made several PTO air pumps. These were similar to the pump shown in your picture. The John Deere pump had two chains attached to the bottom of the pump. The pump was slipped over the end of the PTO and one chain kept the pump stable from rotating and the other chain kept the pump from sliding back off the PTO. These pumps were made for different sizes of PTO's. Usually there is at least one of the JD pumps for sale on e-bay. Go to e-bay and type PTO air pump in the item wanted category. Hope this helps.

Your compressor might be off of a diesel engine and the splined coupler would fit the accesory drive on the front of the engine. Usually the compressor bolted on then the fuel pump bolted up behind it.

Thanks Marlowe, I'm sorry the picture doesn't load, that was human error on my part I'm sure!...I don't think this is anything that hangs on a 3 point...i think its too small for that. If you'd like to see what i mean, a photo can be seen at this address:>Link
when>Link you see it, to give you an idea of the size, the actual piston "chamber" is smaller than a coil is....thanks!...Mark

If it's Massey-Harris, any cast housing will carry
the M-H stamp. The alledged compressor would probably be an outsourced item, attached to MH
casting. The PTO is not a reduction? Any numbers?
Thinking of LPG engines,Cotton equipment,early
combine platforms...something offered with an air
piston. The brief MHF('53-'57), may have needed
the component, on some application. It would seem
unlikely the sole surpose here, is inflating tires
Try the "Help Identify" site, to the left. More
details will help, some pics. Good Luck.
