I belong to our local Two-Cylinder Club. I also work for the local Fire Department. In my frequent alarms , I have met and become correspondent with several farmers in these parts. Well, the club was having a tractor display at the local Tractor Supply store and I asked a farmer aquaintance if he would have time to stop by. He asked if he could bring a tractor even if it wasn't a John Deere. I said of course he could and said that there would be some Ford's and Farmall's there. He said it was a Massey, and left it at that. I expected a 44, or maybe a newer one, and was I surprised when he pulled in there with one of those four wheel drive general purpose (grey) Massey Harris restored to a tee. Are they rare now? This was the first I,ve seen outside of pictures.

very rare, very collectable and hard to get. brings lots of money too. i wish that i had numbers on them but they were not popuraul and did not sell well. they drove rough to say the least and were pigs to drive. great traction. heard of a guy driveing one up a barn wall.

Yeah, I can't wait to talk to him again. I didn't get to see it drive, as he left it on the trailer at the show.

In reguards to the Massey Harris GP 4 Wheel Drive. There were 3,000 of these produced with the flat head Hercules Model OOC engine in them from 1930 til 1935. In 1936 they introduced them again with the Hercules Model OHC overhead valve engine. As close as we can tell there where 440 of these produced. I have six GP 4WDs of them two have overhead valve engines and one of them is the Industrial version with the overhead valve engine and as of now It is the only one known to exist. If you would like to see a pic of it go to the Photo Gallery and type in Massey Harris 4wd it should come up. As for the myths you have heard of them turning like a Bear, if they are not all wore out and the steering is working like it should you can turn them with very little effort.
