Dave...bought my first about 18 months ago - MF35 Deluxe with Perkins 3-cyl diesel. Friend with an immaculate 8N suggested 8N or 9N, but when he took me to the guy he bought his from (retired fellow who reworks old tractors to sell), there was my MF on jack stands and I fell in love with it. When he finished the work on it and I got it home and my 8N friend had a chance to drive it, he drooled all over it. I have only a little under 4 acres, and bought it to use to mow the fields, support consturction of a barn and addition to the house, and other chores. I hope to harvest a little grass hay for friends with horses using old, inexpensive equipment, but even there, not a lot of acreage. I was sure the MF35 was overkill. I couldn' have been more wrong. Definitely want live PTO! 8N is around 27 hp, MF35 is 37 hp - not a trivial difference. Diesel is wonderful...wouldn't have it any other way. If nothing else, it SOUNDS like a tractor should sound! :) On the other hand, my other friend has a very old, tired Farmall that he has no idea what model or age. Its 3-pt lift will stay up for a month, engine shut down, with a load - mine settles as soon as I cut the engine with no load. From what I hear, MF is notorius for that, but it just means I need to do a hydraulic pump overhaul. It's worth the exta effort for all the other advantages. By the way, when that friend borrows my MF35 to mow his horse pasture instead of using his Farmall, he drools all over it! :) Even just mowing with a bush hog, my 37 hp compared to his whatever makes it so much easier and faster. Don't think you could go wrong with MF35. Others may comment on similarities between MF35, TO35, etc. I think it has to do with where it was built, but don't really know. Also, I guess there are some good advantages to getting a Deluxe model, but I can't say what all that means other than dual clutch, maybe extra gauges, floating cushioned seat, and I think some other things. Of course, I'm biased.
