Water Pump problem?

My MF 65 has been running great for bushhoging this summer. The other day I noticed the temp increasing. I shut it down for a while till it cooled. I later went to bring it to the house and the temp went up fast and by the time I had it to the house it had reached the red zone on the guage. When I got it to the house I saw coolant coming out the front of the engine (but could not tell exactly where). I haven't had time to check it any further and before replacing the water pump I am looking for advice. Do you think it is the water pump gone bad?

thanks folks for the responses. I checked out the water leak yesterday and found out the bottom raditor hose had a hole in it from rubbing against the fan belt.

You found the problem yourself, but we all learned several pointers. I'm glad it was something so simple. Cosmo

Well I have fought a long hard battle with my 65 and finally won this summer. First check your hoses and coolant level then check your thermostat you have to take your sheet metal and your gas tank off to get to your thermostat housing if you have questions email me and I will be happy to help I can take mine off blindfolded now. Your water pump is next the pulley on your water pump presses on and if by some reason it is not gripping your shaft it will not circulate water you can tell if your water pump is going out if you are seeping water out the weep hole. Somewhere in the mix I forgot about your radiater look inside to make sure you do not have some crap bhuilt up inside slowing your flow down and like one of the other posts said make sure you are not sucking your lower hose closed Now for the bad news test and this is the one I coped with after doind and replacing everything else!! Before you tear into it take a rubber hose and place it on the overflow tube coming off the radiater then drop the other end in a bucket of water while your tractor is running watch for bubbles if you have bubles at any point you have compression in your water jacket which means a head gasket I went through two before I got it fixed and if it wasn't for big Dean I still wouldn't have it fixed the head gaskets are tough to get to seal but with aluminum paint anything is possible if you get to this point email me and I will tell you what to do you also need ot make sure your fan is pulling enough air through you can make some makeshift shrouds so your fan is pulling all the air through your radiater and not from the side of thecowl.

You may want to also check the lower radiator hose to see if it is collapsing. I once ruined a Chevy after changing the thermostat and taking off like a wild Indian thinking I had it fixed and it was the hose all along.

I'd pull the thermostat first. It might be stuck and you boiled over a bit. Even if the seal in the pumps shot letting coolant out the seep hole, the pump can usually still circulate the coolant.

Good luck
