MF85 Points closing

Got a MF85 gasoline engine. Tractor will run anywhere from 1 - 6 hours and will shut off all of the sudden. Look at the points, and they have closed. I regap them, tighten them down, and run for a while before they will close again. Any idea what is going on? Nothing appears to be loose or broken in the distributor. Could it be electrical? I would appreciate any advise.

Check to see if the screw holding down the points has a lock washer in it. If it does, get a new one, if not put one on. I've had problems with this on my 85 and a new lock washer solved the problem.

Trigger, I bet the point rubbing block is wearing. Put a small dab of grease, the size of a match head on the point cam. That should stop the problem. Ray
