Bought a universal temp gauge, a Tisco UTG25. How much direct contact with water does the tip of the sender need? I ask because the sidewall of the original threaded hole in the thermostat body failed and was repaired by brazing a big nut over the hole and filling in with brazing where the sidewall failed. As a result of the extra depth added by the nut the tip of the sender only extends about a half inch into the cavity where the water flows. Will this be adequate for the gauge to work properly?
