I found the serial number on my tractor. The tag says MF35, and the serial number is SGM248201

That doesn't seem to go along with the serial number info I have found so far. Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks Bob. Looking at the info at ytmag it looked to me like it was a 1964. Is the info at ytmag possibly wrong? Perhaps I misread it.

I just posted a picture of the tractor if you'd like to have a look at it.

What have you started Jeff!!!

The following is an extract from a Massey Ferguson leaflet (produced and printed by them) and is headed FE 35, MF35 & MF35X all models

serial No. Year of man.
1001 9225 1956
9266 79552 1957
7955 125067 1958
125068 171470 1959
171471 220613 1960
220614 267527 1961
267528 307230 1962
307231 352254 1963
352255 388382 1964

Total No. Of tractors built 387,381

There is a ? at the end of 1956 and 1957 but other lists have the numbers running through so who is right? unless someone stole the tractors from the factory.
I have notifide YT of this so may be there listing will be changed.

Nice to see the postings being read and if anyone out there needs help to ID there Ferguson tractor or year of manafacture send me an email or leave a posting.

Thanks Bob! I feel pretty confident that it must be a 1961, based upon the Massey Ferguson info. My wife will be tickled that it is indeed older than she is.

This forum is a great way for us newbies to learn a lot. I find myself going to the garage to just look at the tractor and appreciate it's simplicity.

Yes, They are most likely wrong . I have British build 1961 35 but the North American Serial # from this sight would indicate a 1963 model . The British Serial Numbers are different that those of the US built 35's . I found this out reading Farnsworths Massey Legacy Book .

Tractortips.com indicates the following:
Tractor Serial Numbers Massey-Ferguson | 35 Ser. # Year Made Plate Location 235123 1963 DASH PANEL 222207 1962 211071 1961 204181 1960 It appears yours is a 1963. C. T.

I've found all sorts of conflicting information. Here on ytmag it says that the 64's started with serial number 247605, which would seem to indicate that it must be a 64.

I guess for parts and such it doesn't really matter much does it? It's just that my wife was born in 64, and she said she'd like to think the tractor is older than she is for some reason. I'll probably tell her a tractor guru told me it's a 62 or something so she'll be happy. I'd really like to figure our for sure myself though what year it is. Thanks everyone.

Funny, I just noticed that the tractortips.com site didn't include the 1964 model. I have s/n SNFY360713 which is supposedly a 1964. I also have seen comments on this forum that 1963 was the last year for the 35. I don't really care what year mine is but maybe somebody can clear it up for you. I obviously haven't! C. T.

The MF 35 was built in Detroit U.S.A. and Coventry England at the same time. Each factory used different serial numbers and the USA ended production in 1963 serial No 235123. The UK ended production in 1964 serial no 388382.
Perhaps those who compiled these lists of serial numbers could ammend them to take account of the different origns of the tractors which is clearly stated on the manufacturers plates, the UK 35's being designated FE35 built at Coventry
