Hi, My NH 847 says 40HP which makes a 48x54 bale about 600 lbs. I have no problem with a 52 HP tractor. Some of the small Hesston 39x54 bales you can run with tractors in the high 30's, but you will probable need weights on the front of the tractor. Bill

Depends on size and brand of the baler. My Vermeer 505 SuperI baler makes bales 5X5 and approx 1200 lbs and is rated to be run with about 55hp. However, I don't feel that is enough. It will about kill a 55hp tractor running in 2nd gear. My 65hp will handle it ok, and my 95hp (which I bale with) pulls it like a dream.
