what does it cost to get a crankshaft cut .010 average price? it looks like i need to cut my crank down a bit do to an oval wear in it. also the rear main seal leaked on that motor but looks like it is in good shape still. by cuting the crank back to round, will i be able to use the old seal?

Steven, Cutting a crank shaft is around a $100.00,
sometimes it goes under or over, but until the
shop sees the job, how quick you want it, the price may jump around. Half of the rear main seals
leak due to crank shaft vibration,(worn mains,
rough cranks). Perhaps your seal is good enough,
you could tighten, with a brass strip up against the lower seal. Just enough to support the seal
a bit more. If this is the late '52 H260, easier
to correct. Good luck.

Probably better to forget the year, since so many
're-powers', engine S/N seems more accurate. The
kicker may be gas verses diesel changes. On H260,
if the sun still shines, the last lower half steel
rear oil seal retainer was installed on engine #
73356. On HD260, last engine #16551.
Also, engine S/N's on diesels began with a "1",
later, a "2". From the numbers, it would appear
that only some late '53 44's were built without
the lower steel retainer & 5 screws. But '53 shut
the door on classic 44 production. Next, trying to
figure the last top steel retainer? Two Excedrin,
please...
