I know this has been beaten to death on this board but I can't find a straight forward answer to my questions using the search:

What are the equivalents from the oil companies for M-1103 pure mineral oil? (for a 1962 MF FE 35 Perkins Diesel)

Is GL1 pure mineral oil? Is it equivelent to MF-1103?

I live in Ontario Canada so some of the USA sources may not be available but I would like to know if Shell, Esso, Valvoline, Quaker State, PetroCan (or any other manufacturers) make a comparable oil and EXACTLY WHAT IS IS CALLED?

Thanks

PS - the local Massey dealer has a reputation for overcharging (for example $63 Cdn for an oil filter adapter for my MF FE 35 Perkins Diesel when another dealer wanted $21 Cdn) so I am exploring alternatives. BTW - the other deealer is two hours away.

Thanks

DouroBob: I put 80w90 GL1 in my 35 a few months ago. It is a Shell product called Dentax, and it's straight mineral oil, the same as M1103. I live in Ontario too, in Sarnia. Where are you at?

Thanks Randy
I am east of Peterborough and just heard about Dentax two days ago from an oil dealer who used to carry Shell products.

What price did you have to pay for a 20 litre pail?

Bob

Good question. I have an MF50 and I want to replace the hydraulic fluid. Dealer says use Duratrans at about $10/gallon. I can get an off brand that claims to be the same as Duratrans for about $21 for five gallons. I suspect that would work fine in more modern tractors but should I stick with mineral oil for my 40 year old tractor? Is the off brand the same as Massey's product?
