Trying to put new rings in my MH Pony. I can't get the big end of the rod to go up through the cylinder bore. Am I overlooking something? Is there some way to get them out the bottom without removing the crank?

If I'm not totally nuts-How do you put the rings on? Do you stick the piston assembly through the block, put the rings on, and then compress and install the piston in the block?

I rebuilt my Pony engine a couple of years ago and had the same problem. I removed my engine and crank so it was easy to remove the pistons from the bottom. If you have pushed the pistons up you will have to remove the rings and maybe some carbon before pushing the pistons out the bottom. To re-install the rings I think you can push the pistons up from the bottom and out the top to install the rings. Then use a good ring compressor as you lower the pistons. Be carefull you don't damage the crankshaft. Good Luck, Ken

Well, I got them out past the crank. Tonight I'll see if I can put them back.
