Help,

Just bought a MF 35 utility, #UGM655001095. Has PS, high/ low, shuttle shift, aux. foot accelerator. Needs tuned up badly, tires poor (rear are turf, 14.9 X 24), missing front grill. I want to go thru and tune up, change the fluids, etc. and work from there. Can anyone tell me the correct transmission hydraulic fluid, volume, and any info on this tractor? Am new to MF, just sold 8N and think with a little TLC this could be a much better tractor.

Thanks,
Scott

The MF-35 is a great little tractor. I never worked with the utility model w-shuttle shift but I put 5 years (winter and summer) of hard work on a regular LP gas 35 when I was a kid.With the two stage live PTO it would handle a big New Holland baler. The two speed made for good gear selections and the three point lift was better than any I have seen since. Get a good manual and the tune-up will be a snap. Check ouy Big Deans site for info and links.

Hi Scott;
I don't really have anything to offer directly related to your questions, but I do want to say, Welcome to the board! And, if I may quote someone on a tractor board from a couple of years ago, "don't let no fly chase you from the pie". Last but not least, the offer of assistance from Big Dean is invaluable- I can't begin to tell you how much this man has helped me and countless others. He's an online goldmine... Good luck and happy tractoring!
Roger

Hi Scott
The oil used in those tractors Trans/Hyd is an 80/90 wt. straight mineral oil Massey number M1103. This is not the SAE 80/90 wt. gear oil normally used in Car & truck Gear boxes. If I can be of further help email me.

It will take just under 8 gallons of 90 wt. gear oil. They are great little tractors. And this is a great little message board. Don't get the impression that all of us will jump down your throat for asking a fair question. Get the manuals, like they said. If you have any more questions, ask for BIG DEAN. He is the Ferguson/Massey-Ferguson Guru. Hope this is of some help. Hope to hear more from you. Good luck, and happy tractoring, Bill

I agree with Tom 100% Can't beieve that otherwise intelligent men will plunk down thousands of dollars for a great tractor and think that they can save $29.95 by not buying AT LEAST THE OPERATOR'S MANUAL. And if you're going to need to adjust the draft control and position control likages, you better have the MF shop manual or you won't be able to do it right. Nothing personal but, I'd be embarrassed to come on this discussion board and ask where the hydraulic filter is on my MF35 and how do I change it. I found the answer in my reprinted Operator's Manual. But maybe that's just me. I play ayound with 5 different tractors made by four different manufacturers. The manuals have paid for themselves many times over and given me a lot more enjoyment and knowledge of my tractors. OK off the soapbox now. Thanks for reading if you got this far.

Jim,

Sorry but I can't let this one go. Do you alway treat the uneducated like this? We all have to start somewhere. If I talked down to my clients like this I'd be out of business. Obviously you don't work with the public. No where in my post did I say I was trying to save $29.95. The whole story is I got the tractor from a client to settle his bill. I booted him money on top of this to be fair. We loaded the tractor and it was delivered this am. I haven't had time to touch it. All I wanted was basic information. I will definately find the closest MF dealer and buy the manuals as suggested by Tom. As for further posts I think I'll stay in the 8N and MM discussion boards.

Husker, I said don't take it personal. Evidently you did. If the shoe fits wear it, otherwise leave it for someone with the right size foot. Jim

Do yourself a favor. BEFORE you start working on it to change fuids or anything else, go to your MF dealer and buy 3 real MF manuals: Operator Manual, Repair Manual, and Parts Manual. You need all 3, believe me. Sometimes the Parts Manual will be the only one with enough detail in the exploded views. Do not buy IT manauls, waste of time. Consider the manuals a part of your original price of the tractor - - best money you ever spent.
