Warning: I would suggest beware of BUYING PRODUCTS FROM A KUBOTA/MASSEY DEALER IN KNIGHTDALE, NC KNOWN AS THE TRACTOR PLACE. IN MY EXPERIENCE, THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND WHAT THEY SAY WHEN SELLING PRODUCTS.

Don't wish to dispute your post but I always remember what my friend (a lawyer who specializes in family law and divorces) always says ... "A divorce is like a coin, the woman's story is one side of the coin, the man's version is the other side, while the truth lies along the outside edge of the coin". I guess what I'm really saying is that maybe the discussion forum here is not really the place to give one person's opinion or version of conflict situations, I don't really think that's fair without giving the other party a reasonable chance of stating their side of the story. Not being rude or saying that you're wrong but that's my two cents for what it's worth.

Two cents worth from a friend of a Lawyer....does that say anything to anyone? As far as I'm concerned, I'd sooner hear about second rate dealers from someone else's experience so that I can be wary if I have to deal with them Myself. It also propogates the old adage "the best advertising is by word of mouth". That rule of thumb makes anyone running any sort of business think twice about not providing good service or reasonable prices to even the most demanding of customers. Peoples time & money is important to THEM.... if as a business, it is also important to you & you demonstrate this through your dealings with your customers, your business will reap the rewards of return business & favorable FREE- POSITIVE advertising...the best kind....by word of mouth.

So are you saying that my comment is worthless because my friend is a lawyer? Or maybe your experiences with lawyers (whatever they might have been) have been bad ones. If you read my comment and forget the story about the coin and the lawyer, it still holds a lot of water. I think we should all be able to deal with our business problems without blurting them onto a discussion forum, especially when a person names a company. Pretty unfair I'd say, just like your comments about lawyers. Perhaps a little envy hidden away there?

I couldnt help laughing out loud at the " perhaps a little envy there" comment. I couldnt imagine ever being envious of someone who spends at least a third of their life dealing with the legal system, for other peoples problems. Whilst I enjoy a robust debate & normally actively defend any position I openly take, I feel it would be a waste of space here on the BB to argue for the sake of it. Suffice to say, the comment re lawyers & their friends was "tongue in cheek", and if offense has been taken, then I apologise, but would also suggest that you brush the dust off of your sense of humour & give it a run in the open air a little more often. As for the rest of My post, I stand behind it one hundred percent. I run a business and I treat My customers with the same degree of respect as I expect from other businesses when the customer is Me. I do not suffer fools gladly & refuse to be taken as one either. I work hard for My money & treat others as if they do as well. More often that not, if a customer has a problem with a service or a product, simply replacing the product or re-performing the service still leaves the customer " out of pocket" for the time it took to raise the issue with the vendor & have the fault rectified. Thats why a mistake made by My business usually cost Me more than I made out of the transaction in the first place. That is because I appreciate the customer has had to take time to alert Me to the problem & thereby has cost themselves more time & effort. I ensure that not only is any error on My part rectified, but the customer always gets something out of the transaction to at least go some way towards acknowledging the impost My mistake has placed upon them. We all make mistakes from time to time, none of us can say we get it right 100% of the time. Without exception, I have had return business from every customer that I have inadvertently wronged. And do you know why? Because I admit My mistakes to the customer & not only ensure the work done is re-done to exactly the customer's satisfaction, but I also leave the customer in no doubt that I am appreciative of their bringing the problem to My attention & offering Me the opportunity to rectify the situation to their satisfaction. An additional service or product at no cost to a customer is a small price to pay to ensure that My business is seen as being up front with it's patronage & human enough to be forgiven for the errors experienced in daily life. The adage that " the customer is always right " is crap. I prefer the one that says " a satisfied customer is the only customer My business deals with".

With all due respect, I started reading your response and sort of dozed off half way through (just joking, see even I have a sense of humor). I certainly agree with everything you say but going back to my original post I still stand by my statement that this is no place to post a "bashing" post and it's as simple as that. I am not in anyway defending the dealer on this by the way, personally I have no real interest in the conflict. I just don't think it's fair to do that, and as far as the other post suggesting the dealer put forth his version of events .... well seriously, how does he even know the bashing post was made? And if he did, I'm sure he is a busy guy and trying to get by just like you and I are. Meanwhile, chances are that he is a reputable person who runs a good company and there are probably a lot of people that know him and deal there who would back him. Now, what was I saying about posts being too long and falling asleep?

One of the major benefits to living in the countries that we do is the right to have an opinion & the right to voice that opinion publicly. Your opinion that this BB is not the place to voice a particular dealers indiscretion is testimony to that fact. You are entitled to your opinion, as is the gentleman that decided differently. If the only thing a business has to be wary of in regards to a disgruntled customer, is that individuals singular condemnation of the service he received, then I would venture to say that many more businesses would perform less well in regards to customer service. You are probably correct in assuming the particular business has many a satisfied customer, none of which have advertised the business to the same degree as a single disgruntled customer can or in this case has. Bad news travels fastest. There now...no need for that sedative tonight to get you nodding off is there !!!! ;-)

Well there are often more than two sides and here is the side you are both missing.
Caution is a good thing to exercise.
If We had been warned that the Massey dealer we hired to rebuild an engine for us was less than competent and honest I would not be reading this forum, my tractor would be running. We Spent $6000. with this man and we have found that he did us a real shoddy job. Poor to non existant machine work on the top and bottom end. A total engine rebuild..never even touched the carburator!
He has the only MF dealer for many miles and has been in business for many years in this agriculture intense area.
We did not exercise due caution in the form of a specific contract. We can not get our money back from him. His name is on the side of our pickup with a short editorial!
We wish some one had warned us about him! The money we spent at his shop and then re-doing everything he did has been an expensive lesson and we are not wealthy people.
If you live in Texas send me a note I will be happy to tell you all about it.

I have rebuilt a lot of moters over the years and never rebuilt the carb as part of the job.

In as much as the carb kit is included in the overhaul kit I would figure that a "Complete overhaul" would naturally include the carburator. Likewise when the dealer is told in no uncertain terms that the tractor must be made servicably sound for hay field work and post hole digging a normal customer would expect the whole job and that is what we expected, not what we got. When the crankshaft siezed due to no machine work done on the connecting rods at less than 50 hours the tractor was taken to another shop and "Overhauled" again. I was assured that 'no tractor would enter and leave this man's shop without a carb rebuild.' Good enough for me I thought. On delivery the tractor could haul hay with no problem but would die with the mower. We pulled the carburator and found a good cup full of goo about the color of shellac and the consistency of peanut butter in the carb so I guess these two mechanics follow your methods. It did not come from the tank as we had that cleaned and coated. It was there from day one. Why ever would one tear an engine down top & bottom, mill the heads, grind the valves, and reassemble a short block and NOT even peek at the carburator????
The answer is simple, no machine work was done at all. It was thrown together and when it ran we were billed. This is poor work and there is no legitimate excuse for it. D&G

If your complaint is legit, go to the BBB or your States Attorney's office and file a complaint.

The complaint is legitimate but not enforcable.
It took almost a year for us to figure out what the problem was. By that time we were well past his 90 day warranty and had no contract stating otherwise.
Like we say, get it ALL in writing. D&G
