My baler caught fire yesterday! It appears to have been caused by excessive friction in the bottom and right hand side (Looking from the tractor)of the plunger area. It was workig pretty good and didn't seem to be having any problems. Has anyone ever experienced this type of problem before. The baler was given to me as the owner said it wouldn't work. I would like to restore it and return it to its original look. It just needs some paint and would look really good.

Thanks
Steve

sounds like a bearing on the plunger seized from yrs of sitting.I've seen it happen once before and depending on the damage it should be restoreable

I'd say if you want to restore the #3, do it! I have seen a few #3 balers around and they are lower $$$'s than the #9 or #12's I've seen. My guess is they are a smaller baler.

Yes Bill they are a little smaller than a #9, It's been neglected for several years but doesn't really look that bad. The paint is faded but that can be replaced. The knotters seem to have a lot of wear on them, will check the price of replacing them.

Now in know this is not what you want to hear but, it is not worth restoreing. if you want to restoe it for your slef and not sell it, than it is up to you. now haveing been on fire that isa bit no no for trying to restore. the metals have been weakend by the fire and will not hold up well any more. good old balers are cheap. get a new one.
