HELP!! How to get my 44 Started

Hello everyone, I am writing looking for some feedback. I have a Massey 44, unsure on year, that has been sitting stored for 20+ years. The engine was rebuilt before storage as well as all the metal being blasted and primed. The engine turns freely with the hand crank. All wiring needs to be redone. My question is where should I start to try and get this thing running so I can move it to another location via trailer?

Some of the folks I've talked to think that a good shot of fuel, new battery and wiring and some small clean up should get her to turn over and run. Others think I have 2 months of extensive work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well, We got it running after some minor overhauls and new plugs, coil, points and condenser. It is running like a top and will be coming to its new home later this week. Thanks to everyone who passed on their knowledge.

All you need is a good batt fresh gas and a jumper wire to coil and hit starter if loose and every thing set close you should be able to start it and load and unload and thentensive rewiring. no big problem

not a good idea, if for some reason you do see fit to have to start it, just to get it on the trailer and in the garage, at lease change the oil, oil filter coolent and rear end oil. drop the oil pan and clean it with kero. have the darn filter sent in and have it examend for particals. see what wear was going on 20 years ago. also with the pan droped check around, check the torque on every rod and main.and i would pull the head to inspect the water flow ways, craked heads suck!!!!. i wish that i would have had some one tell me all this when i bought my first tractor, man would that have saved me a head ache. the guys that are telling you not to start it right away have learnd the hard way. you might get away with it, but i dought it. that oil for one has broken down and the additives are on the bottom, 20 years of water have biult up in that engine, the sleeve more than likey are rusted and that rust will kill the rings fast. the sludge that is on the bottom of the oil pan has more than likely pitted the oil pan. and i lay odds that there is dirt in that oil now that was not there when parked, if you start it now, you will lodge that dirt in the bearings! not good to start, take off the lands words of advice and push it on and pull it off. even if you have to push the heavy sob by hand. it is work that will be well spent.

Once you get it loaded and home tie it to a tree and drive the truck forward. If the tree is big enough it will come of the trailer.

Relax, if the 44 sat for 20 years, is 'loose', you are lucky. Since you only mention the 'need'
to load onto a trailer, there's no rush to start it. Winch it, or push it on the trailer. Once you
unload it, plenty of time to do the 100 point check to get it started. In haste, you could break a rocker arm, or damage something else. Good luck.

Heres the dilemna in moving. I can winch onto the trailer. But once I get it to my house I have no way of winching, pulling or towing it into my garage.

Surely, there is someone with an F250 4x4, who would help you for fifteen minutes. Again, Good
luck.
