What is the trick to getting the tie rod ends in a MF 65 to slide out of the tubes. Is heat a good idea?

Some may be....some, like mine, have smooth rods with divets. You slide the tie rod out to match the width of the axle then tighten the set screw/clamp into the divet.

I've just changed the tie rods on my MF40 Ind., and the only way of getting them off was to heat them up with an oxy-acetylene torch and spray on some WD40 or similar while still hot (don't breath in the fumes!!). They came right off with this method.

After looseing the clamp I'd try to turn it side to side with a pipe wrench or try to shock it loose with a hammer and some pb blaster might help...I'd stay away from heat if I could ,it can weaken the tube...2 more tricks ,if you have a slide hammer make a plate to attach it to hammer and drill hole in the other end then put over nut and tighten it and bump slide back and forth....and if all else fails... put the nut back on it after you remove it from the spindle and wrap a length of chain around it then stand back and whip the chain....ofcourse you need to be careful while doing this.....
hope this hepls...

then take the clamps off and drive it around a field with some bumps, keep turning back and forth, it will come loose, maybe before you want it to! Be ready to stop quickly and tighten a clamp.
