I have a Massey row crop, 38" wheels. The ID tag appears to have been torn off. It has a Continental 6 engine, SN MFA 2366 9690. To me it looks like a 44 row crop but the seller thought it was a 102. It has been painted some time back and the grille is missing so there are no other marks. If there were old decals, where would they be? Is there any other method of identifying this tractor?

A 44 will have a hood running from the radiator nose piece back to an uncovered gas tank that is shaped to be part of the styled psrts and a small panel on back of the tank making up a panel for instruments and switches, a 101 will have one top hood running from the vertical panel where the instruments and switches are, all the way to the front of the tractor over the grille. The gas tank is seperate and covere by the hood on the 101. Also I mentioned the 4 and 5 speed trasnsmissions. I am not sure if the 101 has flat mounting places below and to the rear of the radiator on the sides of frame above front wheels or not but I don,t think they do. Decals on the 44 will be on the sides of the hood near the front and the decals on the 101 are more on top, on the concave designed part of the hood.

OK, I found the numbers on the trasmission case, #262146 which according to my book makes it a 101 SR, however instead of being stamped RC it is stamped RE. I wonder why an E instead of C. It is a row crop model. Got any ideas?

The 102 has hinged side panels while the hood and panels on the 44 are one single pice of tin.

If it is a 44 or 102 the serial number and model number is stamped on top of transmission case between tran cover and rear end cover just below pto shift lever. A 44 has 5 speed transmission, a 101 or 102 has 4 speed transmission among other differences. Check the Massey photos on this site and maybe you can identify it.
