I just bought a 1948 101 Jr( I think ) last night and I need to know where the serail number is. I am not sure it is a 101 Jr but it sure looks like it. The man I got it from was not sure what it was but I am sure it is a Massey harris 101 Jr. I am new to this board, I have a Farmall Super A and spend most of my time there but now it will be divided. I will have plenty of questions in the future so please bear with me.

The early 101 Juniors had a mesh style grille and single sidepanels (hinged). The air cleaner was mounted in front of the radiator and did not have a stem going up through the hood. The exhaust stub had a cast iron bend in it before it went through the hood. The later versions had a more sculptured sidecover that tied into another cover under the tank cover. These ones had the aircleaner near the rear of the engine and the air cleaner stack went through the hood. They also had a louvered, tin grille. The exhaust pipe went straight up through the hood. I think the 101's ceased production in '45 or '46 (replaced by the model 30).

The serial numbers should be on a tag riveted to the cast frame just a head of the clutch peal. If this tag has been lost off the frame, the serial number is also stamped on top of the transmission/rear end case between the transmission top cover and the rear end cover, just behind the pto/pully shift lever. If your tractor has an aftermarket lever attached to the pto shift, the number will be underneath that bracket. I don't think your tractor is a 1948 but you can check serial numbers listed on this site.
