My CAV Diesel Injection Pump leaks a whole lot. I have been told that it probably is O rings on throttle Pin(s)> Should I attempt this myself with marginal skill. Thanks

To Country!!!

I'd like the diagram of the CAV pump - If it's the same (or close) the the one used on a MF35.

I am very grateful and I apologize if I offended anyone who was kind enough to help me. I regret it if Big Dean or anyone else thinks I takes their genorosity for granted. There is no excuse for my lack of good manners as the advice given by all has encouraged me to tackle the job. Thanks Big Dean, Tom, and Country for your help. I will let you know how it turns out Thanks

Tortmort, On my MF-690, I just replaced the o-rings around the throttle pin and the shut-off pin. 2 o-rings go on each. Get new o-rings and new cover gasket at MF dealer. Clean the complete exterior with engine cleaner, and then brake parts cleaner until it is absolutely spotless. Clean around the entire area as well. If you open up the top of the pump and let a dirt/grease ball fall into it, it may cost you several hundred dollars for a rebuilt pump. Keep it clean. take off cables. remove cover - only a little bit. Hold it up a little and look carefully underneath it at the spring that goes from the lid to the underneath. One end fastens on to what is called a "tombstone or headstone" because of its shape. It has different holes - - You MUST write down which hole it is in. The other end is hooked into a "flat rod" and it has mulitple holes - - You MUST write down which hole it is in. Now unhook the spring, remove cover, You are ready to replace the o-rings. Reverse the porcedure with new cover gasket. It is a bit tedious - I had a helper to get the spring hooked back up. Leaks are now stopped. Total cost about $5 for o-rings and gasket. Good luck. Last note: IF the spring falls out and you don't know which holes it was in, take full serial numbers (3 of them) to MF dealer. They can then tell you which holes.

The thing you have to watch is which holes the spring is hook into on both ends & get it back in the same holes on both ends also be very careful with those tiny bolts that hold the top on they are very easy to twist off & get a new top gasket. I have a Picture that shows how to do it if you will email me I will send it to you look at it and see what you think

Hi I have reparied several cav 3 cyl pumps several years ago and the best that i can tell from the diagram that there are a spring from the control lever and governor are connected together I would say that a cav pump mechanic would be a good idea if you need a cav diagram let me know and i will email you a picture.

Anyone have a diagram of the parts in and around the basket filter at the input end of the CAL fuel pump? Looks like a check valve, a couple springs. I'd be extremely greatful!
