Has anyone found a good way to remove rust from a diesel fuel tank particularly on an MF 1130, without removing the Cab to remove the tank??? I need help, my 1130 has way too much rust in the tank from years of abuse by my father... left it outside with almost no fuel in the tank hence the rust... Anyway I need to fix this, it's eating up my lift pump's. I already plan on putting yet another in-line filter between the lift pump and the tank to prevent rust from getting past the sediment bowl and into the lift pump. Any ideas????

thanks in advance,

Leo

Visiting from the Ferguson forum - had the same trouble on my TED - find a couple of cheap, powerful, small magnets.

Wrap em both in an old glove finger/bit of rag, and lower one into the bottom of your diesel tank on some string, remove every once in a while, and clean off/replace glove finger.

Drop the other one into your sediment bowl, same technique applies, but no string needed.

Easy to tell when it needs cleaning - you can see the crud attached to the magnet.

Its a slow process but it will eventually get all the rust as it sloshes around in the tank, and the one in the sediment bowl gets what escapes that far.

Thanks for the advice, I bet the magnets they use to remove metal from Cow's intestines would work? I could drill a hole in one end and attach a cable to it. They also have the small round slices that would work in the sediment bowl. It sure seems easier than taking the cab off the tractor to get the tank off to steam clean.

Thanks,

Leo
