pulled the cam out today. pulled all the rods today, they look strait so far. pulled the rockersarm assm, they look dirty and maybe slightly rusty, have not wiped clean yet so. when i pulled out the six liftersthat were in the block i happend to see that a seventh lifter was up inside the block stuck, well after a while of messing around trying to fish it oput i got it out. i started looking in all the ports to see if there was not an eigth lifter up in there, and sure enought there was. so i have all the lifters. when i pulled the head there was no head gasket( go figure hey ) but there was an unexpected find, there were two corn curnels up in the 2nd piston. and there was a 3rd that became cracked corn in a valve, guess he was trying to make gasahol the hard way. the head looks good, but a bit of crud in it, i think from being tore down the first time in a dirty shop. the only real problem with this motor realy is the one crank pin and the governer is missing. all i will need that i dont have is a good crank shaft, new bearings and a new head gasket. the motor is very clean i was surprized, also the sleeves i can still see a bit of crose thatching on them still, and there is just a very little lip on the top. the water jackets are cleaner than any i have ever seen. if i can get a new crack that is in good shape i will put that in and later down the road rework the old crank. i am still not so pleased with what i have, but it is a very good learning engine that is for sure. i realy like the tappets on the 260 over the farmalls. with the farmalls the tappets will wear a groove that needs to be ground out or you will never be able to reset the tappets right agin. thinking abought tradeing in the H for another massey harris tractor!!!!! maybe see abought that 55 the next state over!
