We have just recovered a massey harris that we thought was a model 30. but it isn't. We have a ser.# ID book but we can't find any ser.#on the tractor. The tractor has 38" rear rim's and a zenith carb,it also has a hand clutch which lead's us to beleave that it might be a 333 or a 444. How can we find out what the tractor is without taking the motor apart?

the hand clutch is not just found on a 333 and 444, the 44 33 maybe the 30 can have them too. a 333 and a 444 also may not have the hand clutch, in order to be a triple it needs to have a duel range on it. the duel range is located to the right of the gear shitf lever on the same plate. also it id this tractor properly you will need to find the serieal # stamp on the deck plate. it is right under the clutch on the deck. more than likly covered in mud and crud and cow poopy. it will be eas to tell by the stamp what you have. if you post the S# on here some one will be able to tell you the year and so forth.

Hi Tim, There should be some engine I.D. stamped on the block. What is it? The 444 was a Continental 277 and I believe the 333 was a 264. Let us know what you find out.

If the 'hand clutch' is on the right side, that's a live PTO clutch. The Zenith carb, should mean some version of a 44, if original. All models with
a '3' in them, had a M/S carb. As mentioned, the S/N will help.
