Dad purchased it new in 1972. Has very low hours and was used when we did landscaping when I was a kid.
Want to help him change the hyd fluid. Need to know where are the drain plugs(2?) and the refill plug. Also, how do you gain access to the hydr filter to clean or change it? Heard that it can be easily dropped inside the housing. Should I just buy new one or clean old one? The hyra fluid is still very clean and has never been changed; no problems with system. I'm pretty good with car repair, but have no knowledge about tractors. Thanks for the help

Do your Dad a favor and buy him (and you) a real MF Operator Manual. It will explain and picture what you need to do. Also, use the MF recommended fluids.

Your hydraulic plugs are located on the left side. One at the bottom of the transmission and the other at the bottom of the rear end housing below the PTO selector lever. Both plugs drain the same oil but remove them both so that the oil at the bottom is better drained. The filler is located at the top of the transmission to the left and forward of the shifter. The filter is removed most easily by removing the PTO selector cover from the left side of the rear end case. The filter is really a screen unit that is easily cleaned. The unit holds about seven gallons of oil. There are many opinions on what oil to use. I use regular Tractor Hydraulic Fluid with good results but you should search this site for other opinions. Bob
