The old Massey-Ferguson 50 decided it needed attention. It needed a carb re-build. No big deal. The parts man at the dealership said he had the kit in stock. There is only one. Well, being a bit naive, I headd to his place. He gives me a kit for a Marvel-Shebler (Spelling ?) carb. I told him mine was a Carter carb. He insisted it wasn't, and said this is the kit I needed. OK, he's the expert, right? WRONG. So, I get up sunday, and get ready to rake hay. I figure I'll rebuild the carb, while things are drying off. I take the carb apart, and low and behold, nothing like the kit. I end up at Tractor Supply, (That's painfull enough) First off, the're out of all MF carb kits. I found a Carter carb kit, for a Farm-all Super A, that was "close". It took some "modification" to the body gasket, to make it work. The point of this sad story is; Apparently there was a switch from Carter to The Marvel-Shebler carbs, early on in the production run of the 50. Is the later carb any better? Does anyone know when the switch was made? The Carter carb is very simple, and easy to "tune". Would there be any advantages to either one?
