You have to forgive me, because I usually am browsing the Oliver forum, but I happened onto a tractor today that I thought might be of interest here. I like all the tractor brands, and enjoy checking out an interesting looking tractor no matter what shade of red or green it is. This is what happened today. I spotted a MF 65 diesel that appeared to be a high crop model. It was on 38" rubber, and it had a non-adjustable wide front end with long king pins. It had the Spin out rear rims for widening or narrowing the tread width. It had later looking fenders similar to those on a MF 165. The fenders looked like they might have been changed by someone. The serial tag started off with the letters "CNDW". My question is, did Massey Ferguson make a high crop tractor ? Does the serial prefix CNDW shed any light on this tractor's original specs ? Is this a desireable tractor from a collector's point of view ? I have Olivers, Farmalls, Cases, John Deeres, and a Ford in my stable but no Masseys. Maybe this is the one !!!!! Thanks.

The "C" designates it as a hi clearance.
"ND" is direct injection diesel.
"W" is the wide front.

The tractor you descibed sounds like a 65 Hi-arch except for the non-adjustable front axle. Are you sure about that? My father bought a 65 Hi-arch gas in 1960. It had 13.6 x 38 tires on the back and 6.00 x 16s on the front with long spindles. As far as I know, all 65s had clam shell fenders. These tractors are not especially rare.

Bob,

Yes I could have missed the adjustable front axle. I will be back there this Saturday, and I will check that again. Other than that it does resemble the tractor you describe. I am guessing someone has adapted later fenders to it, because they are not clamshell type. Can you tell me what the CNDW serial number prefix stands for ? Thanks.

I don't know what these letters stand for, but there must be others out there that do. If my nephew picks up on this, he can probably explain it.

I have had two MF 65 tractors. one was a height of 21 inches and the other has 27 inch height if I remember right. Both were four cylnder diesels. I think the high crop was originally an industrial version because the base coat of paint was yellow. I sold the the first one and still have the other. I like the feel of the higher tractor. I don't know about the collectability of it though.

does the tractor just have regular rear wheels or is it equiped with some form of drop box to raise it to a true high crop?

It does not have the drop box on the rear. It has straight axles and uses the 38" tires to gain it's height.
